Hellhounds.

Hellhounds.

3 months later, I’m finally doing that in-depth post about Hellhounds I said I’d do! So, what are hellhounds exactly? Well, that depends. They’ve thought to have been many things. Though a common theme is that hellhounds are guardians of the gates to the afterlife. They’ve also had many differences in it’s appearance. They’ve mostly been known to have black fur with glowing eyes (red or yellow), posses great speed and strength, ghostly or phantom-like characteristics, having a foul smelling odor coming from them and they can even sometimes talk. In other legends they’ve sometimes been seen with fiery characteristics and have abilities based around fire (so they’re basically Pokemon). Now, since hellhounds are supposedly guardians of the gates to the world of the dead, they’ve been mostly sighted around graveyards and burial grounds. Hunting down lost souls and even guarding supernatural treasure have also been parts of their jobs. European legends suggest that if you hear the howl of a hellhound, it’s an omen of death and can even be the cause of death. It’s also been known that if you look directly into it’s eyes three times that you’ll definitely die and there’s nothing you can do to save yourself. In the more recent years, seeing a hellhound means that something bad may come soon. One of the most infamous sightings of a hellhound at a wedding. It appeared behind the groom and this prompted him to quit doing drugs as he believed that this was a sign that bad things were going to happen if he didn’t change his life for the better.

So that’s basically the gist on hellhounds. Now there are MANY more variations on beliefs and meanings behind them, but I just wanted to mainly cover the popular and more accepted/believed theories. What do I think about hellhounds? Well, I believe that if you see one or one shows up in a picture or video (like the wedding one), then it’s definitely a sign that something is wrong or is going to go wrong. I’m not sure if I necessarily believe they’re guardians of the gates to hell. I mean, I guess it’s possible but I particularly don’t believe that to be true. And that’s basically all I have to say on hellhounds. What do you think? Do hellhounds exist or are they just the things of legends? If you think they do exist, what is their purpose and what could it mean if someone was to see one?
